Current Week: 0

Last 7 weeks of Mileage:

Thursday February 4th, 2010: 6 miles
AM: 6 miles (16 min) (2:40/pace) Stationary Bike Not really sure on the mileage this time... I stopped a few times because Dale (my therapist) wanted me to ride at various heights to work out my legs in different ways. It was probably about 6 miles again or over. Did a running motion with my arms (holding weights) to rebuild some core strength. Also 12 minutes on the elliptical (hill workout, level 13?). Towards the end I was trying to simulate a running motion with my upper body as much as possible. 5 minutes treadmill walking and then lots of weight exercises.

That's probably it until Wednesday or Thursday next week, unless the Starkeys have an elliptical or stationary bike at their house.

Wednesday February 3rd, 2010: 8 miles
AM: 0 miles (16 min) (2:40/pace)
PM: 8 miles Stationary bike Normally I don't do PT on Wednesdays, but I've got carte blanche to use the gym whenever I want, so I decided to stop by at 7 tonight after I finished up my meetings. Did the hill workout on the stationary bike (@ level 14, I think). It ended up being a little over 8 miles. 7 minutes of "fast walking" on the treadmill, partial weight, after.

Welcome back! -Jossi

Monday November 9th, 2009: 0 miles
AM: 0 miles (14 min) (2:20/pace) PT It had been too long... starting to get grumpy without exercise. 33 minutes combined on the two arm bikes, then some strengthening for the leg. My regular therapist was out so I had to workout with a nurse, not sure I got all of the same exercises.

AM: 0 miles (14 min) (2:20/pace) Follow-up doctor's appointment I went in for x-rays today with the understanding that if things were healing well, I could start trying to walk again. It's been 6 weeks.

So I get the x-rays, the doctor looks at them and says everything is healing perfectly. "So come back in 6 weeks, we'll x-ray you again, and then you should be able to start putting weight on it again." Boo.

Apparently due to the type of injury I have (with some tearing between the tibia and fibula) I have some scar tissue that has to heal, which takes longer or is less stable than bone. "Some doctors with an injury like this require a patient to be non-weight bearing for 3 months," my doctor said. "But since you're healthy I'm just going to keep you non-weight bearing for 12 weeks." What? I hope he meant 6 months... otherwise I can't really trust his prognosis too much... And I wish he'd told me this 12 week thing a while ago.

AM: 0 miles (14 min) (2:20/pace) PT #2 I haven't done that good a job of doing PT stuff over the past week in Cincinnati. But back to the therapist today. Today was a little more active. Did 3 sets of the following:
-12 core turns with a medicine ball
-25-30 ankle rotations with weights (3 different directions)

Did some leg lifts with resistance. At the end got on 2 different arm bikes - 7 minutes and 10 minutes each. Made it a mile on the second bike.
